Linux Systems Administrator
SOS International LLC (SOSi) is seeking a skilled and experienced Linux Systems Administrator to join our team in Wiesbaden, Germany. As a Linux Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our organization's Linux-based systems and infrastructure. Your expertise will contribute to ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of our Linux environment. Essential Job Duties
- Linux server administration: You will install, configure, and maintain Linux servers, including physical and virtual machines. This includes performing regular system updates, managing user accounts, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues.
- System monitoring and performance optimization: You will monitor the performance of Linux systems, analyze resource utilization, and recommend optimizations to ensure optimal system performance. This includes tuning kernel parameters, optimizing file systems, and monitoring network connectivity.
- Security and compliance: You will implement and maintain security measures to protect Linux systems from potential threats. This includes configuring firewalls, managing access controls, implementing security patches and updates, and conducting security audits. You will also ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Backup and disaster recovery: You will develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies for Linux systems. This includes performing regular backups, testing restore procedures, and implementing disaster recovery plans to minimize downtime in case of system failures.
- User support and troubleshooting: You will provide technical support to end-users, assist with troubleshooting issues, and resolve Linux-related problems. This includes diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues, as well as providing guidance on Linux system usage.
- Scripting and automation: You will develop scripts and automation tools to streamline system administration tasks and improve operational efficiency. This includes shell scripting, configuration management with tools like Ansible, and implementing monitoring and alerting solutions.
Minimum Requirements
- Active in-scope DoD secret security clearance.
- A Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of recent specialized experience, OR; An Associate's degree plus 7 years of recent specialized experience, OR; A major certification plus 7 years of recent specialized experience, OR; 11 years of recent specialized experience.
- One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
- IAT Level II certification such as Security+ or equivalent is required at start date.
- The ability to work in a high pace environment with a team to accomplish mission requirements.
- Has proficient writing, oral communications, and presentations skills.
- ITIL Foundations v4.
- MTA Server Administration Fundamentals or MCSA 2016 or newer equivalent.
- Must be approved by the USG and qualify as a Technical Expert under the U.S. SOFA in Germany.
Preferred Qualifications
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE): This certification validates your skills in Linux system administration, including system configuration, networking, security, and troubleshooting. It demonstrates expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, which is widely used in enterprise environments.
- CompTIA Linux+ or LPIC-1: These certifications provide a solid foundation in Linux system administration, covering essential skills such as installation, configuration, command-line usage, and basic networking. They are vendor-neutral and are recognized across various Linux distributions.
- SUSE Certified Administrator (SCA): This certification focuses specifically on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server administration. It demonstrates your expertise in managing SUSE-based Linux systems.
- Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC-2 or LPIC-3): These advanced-level certifications validate advanced Linux administration skills and cover topics such as network services, security, and virtualization.
