Caregiver
SOSi is actively seeking a Caregiver to join us supporting our customer in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Caregiver will play a vital role in providing direct care and supervision to unhoused family guests within a shelter environment or day center, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are met in a supportive manner while maintaining compliance with established standards.
Essential Job Duties
· Conduct intake services, including recording guests’ personal property, completing necessary documentation, and addressing basic needs of guests upon arrival.
· Provide direct care and supervision to guests within the shelter environment.
· Interact with guests in a positive, trauma-informed manner to facilitate a safe and caring atmosphere.
· Escort guests to and from different destinations within the facility.
· Monitor cleanliness and sanitation of resident areas and report needs to appropriate staff.
· Conduct wellness checks in and around the shelter.
· Ensure guests uphold shelter rules, communicating any issues or concerns to the site Case Manager.
· Take guest attendance, maintain bed count, and monitor shelter capacity.
· Recognize signs and symptoms of illness, treat minor ailments, and seek appropriate guidance from supervisors if guests require additional screening or care.
· Submit prompt and accurate documentation, including incident reports, daily logs, and other required paperwork.
· Communicate a “read-out” of shift activities and necessary follow-up during daily stand-up meetings.
· Assists Case Managers in providing services to guests, under close and regular supervision and tutorage of Case Managers.
· Screen guests and pinpoints their needs.
· Explains programs and procedures and answers general questions.
· Records relevant interactions with guests into a database.
· Submits to and reviews reports and problems with superior.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
· Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
· High school diploma or GED.
· Must pass background checks and Child/Adult Protective Services (C/AN) checks.
· Ability to work independently or within a team.
· 1 year of related work experience in an administrative or social services setting.
· Ability to act responsibly, professionally, and use good judgment under pressure required.
· Ability to multitask in fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
· Excellent interpersonal and staff management skills.
· Strong communication skills in both verbal and written.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
Preferred Qualifications
· Competencies include de-escalation, interpersonal awareness, critical thinking, and teamwork.
· Experience working with vulnerable, unhoused, or migrant populations.
· Bi-lingual fluency in Haitian Creole and English.
· Demonstrating successful interaction with peers and/or clients.
Work Environment
· Ability to remain composed under pressure while ensuring the safety and well-being of guests.
· Ability to work non-traditional hours including consecutive nights and weekends when necessary; shift work required. Inside and outside, all weather conditions.
· Ability to work efficiently under deadlines and pressure.
· Ability to keep up in a fast-paced environment.
